How Bellows Air Duct & Vent Co. of Atlanta Was Born in Atlanta

The call came in on a Tuesday morning in late July. A woman in Druid Hills, maybe seventy years old, told us she’d paid another company $750 to clean her ducts three weeks prior, and now her house smelled like a wet dog every time the AC kicked on. We found the problem in twenty minutes. They’d stirred up decades of debris, never extracted it properly, and left her with a mold bloom spreading through the trunk line. She sat at her kitchen table while we worked, and when we showed her the camera footage, she didn’t get angry. She just looked tired. That look stayed with us.

We’d been working for another outfit in Atlanta at the time, watching the same script play out. The $49 coupon in the mailbox. The technician who arrives and discovers “additional problems.” The bill that multiplies like a magic trick. The industry had become a machine for converting trust into invoices. That afternoon, driving back up Ponce de Leon Avenue with the windows down, we made a decision. If we were going to spend our lives in other people’s homes, crawling through their attics and handling the air their grandchildren breathed, we were going to do it without the theater. One price, shown before the first tool came out of the van. Camera footage before and after, so the homeowner saw what we saw. No scare tactics about black mold unless there was actually black mold. We called it the Keystone Standard. We still do.

We filed the paperwork that September. Named the company Bellows, after the oldest tool humans ever used to move air. Felt right for work that doesn’t need rebranding every five years.

Our Founder’s Personal Connection to the Air Duct Cleaning Trade

Our path into this work started in a basement workshop in Sandy Springs, watching a man named Walter rebuild a vacuum blower motor at a bench cluttered with coffee cans full of sorted screws. Walter was our uncle, though “uncle” doesn’t quite cover it. He raised us more than he didn’t. He’d been cleaning ducts since 1978, back when the equipment was homemade and the expectations were simple: leave it cleaner than you found it. We were twelve, maybe thirteen, handing him tools we didn’t know the names of, learning the smell of heated dust and the particular rattle of a bearing going bad.

The work got under our skin slowly. We didn’t plan on it. After high school we tried other things, office jobs that left us staring at walls, wondering why the hours moved so slowly. Then one Saturday we helped Walter on a job in Vinings, a big old house with a system that hadn’t been touched since the Carter administration. The trunk line was packed solid. We spent six hours on it, working methodically, running the camera, pulling out what must have been forty years of accumulated debris. When we finished, the homeowner, a man about Walter’s age, stood at the register and felt the airflow on his palm. He didn’t say much. Just nodded, and shook our hand longer than people usually do.

That feeling, the tangible result of work done with patience, became the thing we couldn’t find anywhere else. We’ve been at it more than ten years now, and what gets us up in the morning hasn’t changed. It’s not the money. It’s the moment when a customer feels the difference in their own house, when the air moves the way it’s supposed to, when the dryer vent runs clear and they don’t have to think about it anymore. If we weren’t doing this, we’d probably be fixing old motorcycles or restoring furniture, something that rewards the same slow attention. But this found us first.

The work means something personal because houses mean something personal. We’ve crawled through attics in August when the shingles were too hot to touch, and we’ve worked in crawlspaces in January where our breath fogged the camera lens. Every time, we’re inside someone’s sanctuary. That’s not a word we use lightly. We’ve seen the family photos on the walls, the shoes by the door, the handprints on the windows. We treat the ductwork like the lungs of the house because that’s exactly what it is. Walter taught us that. We think about him when we’re training our own people now.

Meet Our Team - The Person Behind Every Job

We’re the same people who answer the phone and show up at your door. No rotating cast of subcontractors, no technician pool where you get whoever’s available that day. We run every job personally, with the same hands that built this company from one van and a borrowed camera system.

Our training started in Walter’s basement and continued through formal certification with Nikro and Abatement Technologies equipment, plus ongoing education on Atlanta’s specific building codes and the particular challenges of our climate. Hot, humid summers mean condensation issues in ductwork that northern technicians don’t see. We’ve learned those patterns the hard way, job by job, neighborhood by neighborhood.

Outside of work, we restore vintage woodworking tools, the kind with wooden handles and brass fittings. The patience required to bring something back to working condition without rushing the process, that’s the same patience we bring to your ductwork. We don’t believe in good enough. We believe in done right.

Our commitment to you is direct: when we leave your home, the job is finished to our own standard. If it’s not, we’ll be back. No paperwork to file, no manager to convince, no argument about whether the problem is “in scope.” We stand behind it because our name is on the van.

Our Promise to Atlanta Homeowners

Our values aren’t framed on a wall. We call them K.E.Y.S., and we use them to make actual decisions.

Krafted right means our technicians are trained journeymen, not hired off a job board last week. We use proper materials, sized correctly for your system. No flexible duct tape where metal clamping belongs, no shop-vac where a HEPA extractor is called for. We learned from Walter that shortcuts always cost more eventually.

Every time means the 400th job gets the same care as the first. We track our own work, review our own footage, and correct what needs correcting before we ever present a bill. Complacency is the enemy of craft.

Your home first means we work in your house the way we’d work in our mother’s. Booties on, drop cloths down, tools organized, nothing left behind but clean air. We’ve fired technicians for leaving a mess. We’ll do it again.

Standing behind it is the Keystone Standard: 90 days, in writing, no arguing. If the work isn’t right, we return. No claim forms, no third-party arbitration, no hoping you forget. A square deal, plain and simple.

Our Credentials

State-licensed contractor in Georgia, fully compliant with all applicable regulations for residential HVAC and duct cleaning work.

Insured & bonded, protecting your property and our team while we work in your home.

Years of local experience serving Atlanta homeowners, with deep familiarity across neighborhoods from Brookhaven to Fair Oaks, Mableton to North Druid Hills.

Strong local reputation built one job at a time, primarily through word-of-mouth and repeat customers who’ve known us for years.

These credentials matter because you’re inviting strangers into your home to work on a system that affects the air your family breathes. A license means we’ve met Georgia’s standards for competence and accountability. Insurance means if something goes wrong, you’re not left holding the bag. Local experience means we’ve seen the specific duct configurations common in Atlanta’s housing stock, from the ranch homes of Smyrna to the older systems in Druid Hills. And reputation, real reputation built over time, means we have something to lose if we ever let you down. That’s the point of all of it. We’re not passing through. We’re planning to be here when you need us again, or when your neighbor asks who you called.

Rooted in Atlanta

We’ve raised our own family in this area, between jobs in Vinings and evening drives through Sandy Springs. We’ve sponsored the youth baseball league in Austell, contributed to repair funds at a church in Brookhaven, and hired our technicians from local trade programs rather than recruiting from out of state. When we say we’ll be there when we say, we mean it literally, because Atlanta traffic is Atlanta traffic and we plan accordingly. We’ve worked in homes on quiet streets in North Atlanta and in the older neighborhoods near Decatur where the ductwork predates the internet. This is our community. We’re not a franchise that arrived last year with a playbook and a territory map. We’re local people doing local work, and we plan to be here in thirty years, still answering the phone ourselves.
